So I am currently watching my favorite team and sampling my wine of the week, which feels about as weird as drinking vodka on Cinco de Mayo. Yelling at the TV and sipping wine just doesn’t seem the same as screaming your face off then slugging a nice cold beer. However, I have set my qualms and my current infatuation aside to bring you this week’s feature. Continuing on my oddly named wine kick, I picked a wine entitled Toasted Head (which by the way I would like to currently like to do to the geography teacher from Ohio calling the game). This Chardonnay hails from California and has a surprisingly tart note for a chard. Normally a Chardonnay tastes like a crisp fall day, flooding your tongue with a sweet mix of vanilla and apple and fruit and a crisp yet smooth finish. I was surprised to find that this one was more like early spring in a glass, starting out with a sweet symphony of floral and fruit notes, and ends on a bit of a sour yet sensual note. The taste is somewhere between buttered bread and lemons, which I guess would make it a lemon chiffon cake, or slightly acidic yet savory rendition of your tongue being wrapped in silk dress. You can also taste a hint of oak and smell a vague aroma of graham cracker, making it earthy yet delicate. Weighing in at $9.99 is definitely worth a try for any Chardonnay fan, especially if you’re enjoying some Italian.
Keep you wallets full and your mouths happy!
