This week’s pick was a random selection by my father. I sent him to the store on a mission (which he chose to accept); get a bottle of white wine for around 10 bucks. I must say he did a good job, my wine was signed sealed and delivered! He definitely deserves some props for his blind selection. I love everything about this wine from the name, Danzante Pinot Grigio, down to the floral undertones. You may think considering it’s an Italian wine and I’m an Italian girl I might be biased. Well au contrair mon frair, most of my favorite wines come from the good ol red white and blue. However I must say this wine makes me proud to hail from al Italia.
The first thing I noticed that it has a rather unusual note. Yes it has the standard tropical fruit and citrus we all love, but I has a surprise guest at the end. It’s kind of like when you open your favorite box of cereal and there’s a surprise inside. After the floral fruity notes faded I was hit with Banana. It doesn’t seem that big of a jump right, banana and tropical fruit are about as standard as peanut butter and jelly, but for some reason it is just not something you find in most wines. The banana really gives the wine a full bodied richness that you don’t normally find in a white wine. Usually that robust flavor is more of a red wine kinda thing. But this wine really makes it work; it’s sexy and it knows it.
I also noticed a hint of acidity, which provided a nice contrast to the sweet notes. It’s kinda like the same experience you get watching a chick flick, you go through just about every emotion (or in this case taste) possible in 60 seconds. However, for something having so many different flavors it is a well balance bottle of deliciousness. It absolutely gets my seal of approval!
Keep your wallets full and your mouth happy
