Marilyn Monroe once declared diamonds to be a girl’s best friend.  Clearly she was never a stressed out 24 year old on a budget.  When the soundtrack to your life seems like circus music on repeat and you’ve started to consider panhandling to make money to get by, wine trumps diamonds hands down.  And then there are days like today where just one bottle won’t hack it, so I bought a second.  The first selection I made was a red, shocking I know.  Blame it on insanity, or the fact that its title, 19 crimes, reminded me of “99 Problems” which struck a chord.  And then, as if fate has stepped in, I spotted a white blend on my way to the checkout.  It was the title that grabbed me at first.  Call me a hopeless romantic but with a name like Dreaming Tree I couldn’t pass it up.   Though I am admittedly not a die-hard Dave Matthews fan, I was intrigued by the fact that he had embarked on a new wine making venture.

While the tag was a bit more than I usually spend, or can afford, it was well worth an extra six dollars.  It was nothing like I have ever tasted in a “cheap” bottle of wine before first of all it combines four varietals that rarely comingle in the same bottle; Gewürtztraminer, Riesling, Albariño, and Viognier .  Second, most affordably priced bottles have a lackluster flavor with a mineral finish, but this one came out with a bang.  It begins with a bold, fruity flavor the dissipates to a more smooth finish.  Often times cheap white wine tastes more like straw, apparently Jesus reversed osmosised wine into water.  But hey, always look on the bright side of life right? However, this is one bottle I would gladly pull out my pom-pom’s up for.

Tasting notes include the standard lineup- honeysuckle, fresh citrus and floral aromas with a hint of melon.  Then out of no-where, it goes Jekyll and Hype on your taste buds going from sweet to bold in seconds. Bipolar? Maybe, but if that is wrong, I don’t want to be right.  You can taste a nice transition from initial sweeter flavors to a kick of fresh grapefruit and lemon intertwined with the subtle taste of smoke. Think of it as a Jersey Girl in a bottle, we’re sweet, but when you piss us off we bring the fire!

In all seriousness, there is nothing boring about this wine.  It is exciting from start to finish and while I am usually not a repeat offender but I will put on a hat and some shades and definitely buy this again!  Hopefully tonight I’ll be of Dreaming Tree instead of Craiglist furniture (don’t ask).

Keep you wallets full and your mouths happy! <3 DD
