Well this is one day I have to say TGIW- Thank God it’s (Wine) Wednesday; a little delicious vino is definitely making this debate a little easier to swallow.  I have to confess this bottle was not one I would normally pick.  No, not because it is red, we all know how I feel about that, but because it is not a screw top. After an unfortunate accident of being stranded without a corker, (don’t judge I know you’ve been there) I tend to pick bottles that take the guesswork out of opening them. My Mom likes to call that idiot proof.  She swears she’s not talking about me, but I have my suspicions.  In any case, this week I found myself sick with a nasty head cold so I sent my Dad to the liquor store (and since he is 2 for 2 on good picks, I might just send him every week).  Did I mention it was only $9.99, go Dad!

The first thing I noticed upon opening the bottle was a rather pungent aroma of fruit.  Not the normal orchard perfume you get from a chardonnay, more of the bright citrus scent of a Pinot Grigio.  Right away I knew this was a special bottle of wine; not the special your Dad calls you when walk in to a glass door, more of an “I just got a full ride to Princeton” special.  After careful corking and a coy knowing smile that came from hearing that signature pop for the first time in a while, my mouth was flooded with a cornucopia of aromas that would have made the first thanksgiving look like an appetizer. Each tantalizing aroma was unique and unexpected, yet somehow managed to create enticingly smooth bouquet. At first there was a strong note of the sweet nectar of pears and the tang of a granny smith apple that comes with any chardonnay.  However, what happened next really sent the fireworks flying.  As the apple faded to lemon, I began to taste a bit of a familiar fall flavor.  I was pleasantly surprised to find a hint of clove and nutmeg; spices that make you feel like your snuggled under a warm comfy blanket. Though I loved the baking spices, it was the finish that really blew me away.  Get your minds out of the gutter people I don’t mean that kind of finish.  After going from fresh, to cozy, I was left with the creamy luscious taste of butter; a nice end to a well casted composition.  If you like apple pie, I am pretty sure you will enjoy this wine, especially with a light fish or a crisp pizza. Personally I am looking forward to mulling some on the next chilly fall night.

Keep you wallets full and your mouths happy!
