So I took a break from Chile and moved onto Argentina.  Big step I know, but sometimes you have to take risks in life and walk on the wild side.  Much like my wine selection I will be south of the border in less than three days on a much needed, and well deserved vacation to Mexico. When you hit the point in your life when you go to get a spoon and get a fork even though you already have one, or sit down on the toilet and forget what you’re doing for five minutes it usually means you are due for a mental breakdown or a vacation.  Since a beach getaway seemed slightly more appealing than a trip to the funny farm I chose to go with them to Cabo San Lucas.  My parents seem to think I can put my Minor in Spanish to good use to which I say “ja ja ja ustedes son loco en la cabeza!” I will not be exerting any extra brain power for the duration of the week except to say “uno mas cerveza por favor.”

I could tell you that my ritual of drinking affordably priced bottles of wine on Wednesdays has been conditioning for next week, but my mother told me God doesn’t like liars.  Although I have to admit, I have come to get a sense of excitement for my forcibly late night rendezvous with my writing companion and a bottle of vino.

I am not sure if it was fate or irony that made me walk into the liquor store this morning and pick out “Terra Libre Fume Blanc ,” but it seems rather apropos. It hails from the foothills of the Andes Mountains in Mendoza, an area known for its wines. The overall taste has a slightly more acidic flavor that rather than the traditional meaning of the word gives it more of a refreshing quality.   The body is very light which makes it a nice vehicle for the subtly tart notes of citrus and kiwi. There is just a suggestion of fragrant vanilla that offers a nice balance to the crisp onset. It seems like the perfect complement to a walk on the beach and seafood dinner, so if you’re looking for a more robust in your face “Jersey Shore Guido” type white wine I would suggest trying something a bit stronger like Chardonnay (or mixing it with vodka and steroids).
